Dear Mr. Smith: Please allow this to serve as a status report in the above-referenced matter. The Court granted all five (5) of our requests for orders of default against the defendant. Mr. Wan Sheng, counsel representing the defendant, contacted my offices on May 17, 2004, asking whether Plaintiff would consent to initiate settlement negotiation in Beijing. Please advise how you would like to proceed. On May 13, 2004, we received interrogatories and request for production of documents from the defendant, responses to which will be due on or about June 12, 2004, allowing three (3) days for mail. Please provide the requested answers well in advance of this date. Also, please send me by email the discovery you want us to serve on the defendant.
